Original review: November 15, 2008, for lunch This relatively newly opened Italian restaurant in Ambleside is run by the same proprietor who used to have Pippins Café on the same premises. And the principle seems to be the same: Decent food at very good prices.
We went for lunch and I had a lunch special; soup of the day and choice of main course for £5 – asparagus soup and tagliatelle carbonara, which was good, although the pancetta was too thickly sliced and pretty hard to chew. Martin had eggs Benedict at £3.95 (poached with spinach and Hollandaise sauce) on a toasted muffin, which were perfectly cooked – but he would have preferred home made Hollandaise. Little Lukie had a couple of delicious, spiced pork sausages and hash browns for which we were charged £2.95.
On the whole, the food at Tarantella was tasty, if not entirely home made, but with the prices charged, you can live with that.
