Original Review: Lunch on July 4, 2009 We've been to this pub before, mainly because it has such a great outdoor playground and seating area, perfect for Luke. The inside, where we rarely sit, is your typical pub interior, pretty cosy and relaxed.
The menu is pretty extensive and there were a dozen specials as well, which always makes me a bit suspicious. However, I have to say there was nothing wrong with the food - pretty good pub food all around. I had one of the specials; wild boar steak with apple and brandy sauce (or was that jus?) – the meat and chips were good, and the sauce was delicious. However, the vegetables depressing – over boiled mange tout, carrot and cauliflower – why? Martin had an old favourite; gammon, egg and chips, which he was happy with. Lukie's Cumberland sausage with mash and gravy was really good.
We'll come back to this pub again – even if the food is nothing special, it's well prepared and that, in combination with the playground, makes it one of the top choices for pub lunches in the Kendal area.
