Woodhalls (2006) Woodhalls in Waberthwaite has a royal appointment to supply traditional Cumberland sausage, ham and bacon to the royal household.

Nook Farm Honey (2007) Duncan and Helen Griggs produce lovely honey tasting of the dandelions, clover, meadowsweet, thistles, willowherb and other wild flowers around the farm in the very north of the county.

Hawkshead Relish (2007) Maria and Mark Whitehead has turned 16th century barn near Esthwaite Water into Cumbria's biggest production facility for preserves – the company has 100+ products in its books.

Lizzie's Home Made (2007) Lizzie Smith is the creator of the Cumbrian Frutta Cotta, a fantastic Italian inspired preserve to go with cheese. Other favourites include Posh Prunes.

Kiviks Musteri, Sweden (2006) During a summer visit to Cecilia's native south of Sweden, we visited an apple orchard which makes the most amazing fruit juices, from apples as well as native berries.

Morecambe Bay Shrimp (2006) One of the most distinctly Cumbrian food products around are the Morecambe Bay Potted Shrimp, made by the eponymous company in Flookburgh.

Howbarrow Organic Farm (2006) Paul Hughes and Julia Sayburn grow organic veg and herbs at their farm just outside Cartmel.

Sillfield Farm (2006) At Peter Gott's farm there are rare breed pigs, wild boars, rare breed sheep and chickens – all of which are free-range and home-grown and sold in the farm shop. Peter is a champion of local and slow food.

The Watermill (2006) Nick and Ana Jones run the organic Watermill at Little Salkeld, where they have been producing organic flour since the 1970s. There's also a lovely café and shop.

Yew Tree Farm (2006) Caroline and Jon Watson rear Herdwick sheep and Belted Galloway Cattle at their farm outside Coniston. Caroline also writes regularly for our e-magazine about sustainable farming and food production (see under "Readin").

Holker Farm Dairy (2009) Martin Gott and his partner Nicola Robinson have been producing fantastic ewe's milk cheese since 2006, and now also run Cartmel Cheeses cheese shop which stocks lots of cheeses from the UK and further afield.

Growing Well (2009) At Low Sizergh Farm outside Kendal, James Smith and Beren Aldridge run a social enterprise, which grows veg and herbs, selling them through the farm shop as well as through a Community Supported Agriculture Scheme.

Mansergh Hall (2009) At Mansergh Hall Farm outside Kirkby Lonsdale, the Hadwin family rear pigs, cattle and sheep, selling the meat at their own farm shop as well as through other local food shops.

Chilli Pepper Company (2009) Thansk to Gerald Fowler at the Chilli Pepper Company, Cumbria is now home to the world's hottest chilli, the Naga Viper. Gerald and wife Diane also make chilli sauces.

L'Enclume and Howbarrow (2010) Michelin chef Simon Rogan has teamed up with organic veg grower Julia Sayburn at Howbarrow farm, who now grows herbs and veg exclusively for the high profile Cartmel restaurant.

Deer 'n Dexter (2006) Jane Emerson and Peter Stoeken breed deer and Dexter cattle, producing fantastic, lean, red meat. They even have their own slaughter house at the farm.
