The Samling near Ambleside has regained the one Michelin star it held during 2005. The restaurant was one of 18 new one-star establishments to be named in the UK in the Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland 2010, which will be available from Wednesday Jan 20.

The Samling constituted the only bit of news as far as Cumbria is concerned. Three other restaurants have kept their one stars (year in brackets is the first year they were awarded a star): Holbeck Ghyll in Windermere, Sharrow Bay at Ullswater and the avant garde L'Enclume in Cartmel.

We reviewed L'Enclume last summer, you can read what we thought here. And our interview with owner Simon Rogan is here.

We've also met head chef Colin Akrigg at Sharrow Bay – sitting on the shore of lake Ullswater, this is probably the most beautifully situated of all the Michelin restaurants. The interview with Colin is here.
