It’s that orange time of year, not least in Cumbria, where we’re building up to our top foodie event of the year (in our opinion!) – The World’s Original Marmalade Awards, held this year on Feb 25-26 at Dalemain House. Jane Hasell-McCosh is running the competition, and its weekend festival, for the 7th year this year. Closing dates for entries in the competition is Feb 12 for the Artisan/B&B category and Feb 19 for the home made/amateurs category.

The Festival will include workshops from famous foodies Ivan Day and Dan Lepard. There will also be a Marmalade Concert, a Marmalade Church Service and an array of activities with a citrus twist. Past Artisan winner Perthshire Preserves said they ‘would suggest Dalemain Mansion 2012 is a fun day out for all Marmalade lovers including Paddington!’

Paddington Bear is once again sponsoring the Family Affair category, which is all about families, groups of friends and children getting together to make marmalade.

There are two new categories this year, Heritage Marmalade and Novice Marmalade.
The Heritage category has been inspired by the 17th Century recipe of Elizabeth Rainbow found at Dalemain Mansion. So, if your Grandmother knew the secret ingredient to making magic marmalade why not enter this category to see if hers is the best in history? The Novice Category does exactly what it says on the jar. If you’ve never made marmalade but enjoy eating it then why not give it a go!
