It is truly amazing what you can find on your doorstep.
It’s all over the place!
Slacks Cumberland Sausage, Morecambe bay potted shrimps,
Savin hill middle White pork, Fellbred forerib of beef for Sunday lunch, Keldthwaite Gold cheese, Blengdale Blue, Duck eggs and black Pudding, Woodall’s Pancetta and dry cured bacon.
“What is your point?” I hear you asking.
Well, all the ingredients, and dishes I bought and very much enjoyed at home with my wife and kids, were bought and purchased from Ambleside.
It’s amazing. I’ve been on a quest and looked in every food outlet in Ambleside and no café or restaurant is safe.
As I have seen where all the food is bought from, it’s a big ‘thumbs up’ for the locals.
Let me know what local foods and produce is available where you are.
“Hey if we don’t use them, we’ll lose them.”
Think Local.
Eat Local.
But above all else, Buy Local.
Nick….

Hi Nick,
Ambleside is particularly blest because of Lucy's deli as well as one or two other great food stops. I also recently read that Ambleside is ranked as the UK's fourth Gastrohub so I am not surprised by your post.
I have a bone to pick with Lucy however, she's taking all my favourite local meat - I call into Yew Tree Farm on my way from Coniston to Grasmere, to pick up a few Belted Galloway steaks and guess what, I'm told by Caroline who farms their that I'm too late, Lucy's got the lot!
When you are logged onto the site, you will see a lot more about where you can shop locally for our excellent local food. As well as the locations of all of our top producers, one of the maps highlights what we think are the counties top Deli's and Farm shops, ie. Low Sizergh, Lucys, Plumgarths, Carleton Farm Shop...etc We have visited each one of them and can vouch that they stock a significant amount of local produce, as well as produce from further afield.
If anybody has a particular favourite and it is not on our list, then drop me an e-mail and I will investigate and if we like what we see we will add it to the map.
Martin
