Oh wow I can go to bed and not have to set my alarm.. Well my early mornings at the Low Wood have finished now, and thank the lord it's over, getting up at 4.15am and going out to work has really got me battered,it's all good fun when you get there and start cooking, but it is the initial early start that has thrown me.
We have been finishing around 2pm and I'm at home by 2.15pm, but by the time i've made a brew and sat down, i wake up about 3 hours later, crouched on the couch like a question mark, but I'm back at the Swan at Grasmere on Monday next week, and I can't wait.
2 days off now and lots of good food to cook for my family, we've got galloway sirloins from Paul Heavey in Staveley, shanks of lamb from Freddie Garside, and tonnes of Woodalls pancetta and back bacon, R S Irelands Black Pudding and Blengdale blue and Keldwthaite gold cheeses, along with the organic box of vegetables that my sister has bought from her friend in York, it adds a whole new meaning to comfort food eh ?
Love to you and yours,
Nick... |

Hi Nick,
Your not the only one lacking in sleep, Luke is doing a good job taking mine, but he does give it back in smiles.
I was in the Low Wood on Saturday night, as ELH are very good customers of my photography. I took some brochure pictures so they can market their "party nights" at the hotel. The main dining room is really impressive and everybody looked to be having a good time. They looked pretty busy on the Saturday. I guess you prepped or made a lot of the the food that was served!
By the way, who is RS Ireland, and where can I get hold of his black puddings? - Have you tried the Herdwick from Yew Tree Farm, or the Belted Galloway, its superb. Rock on Woodalls, his pancetta is just perfect. ! - Martin

Hey martin,
RS Irelands black puddings are renouned all over the north west,
He was the guy who Rick stein featured in his food heroes programmes,
I was lucky enough to meet them and used there products on my live demos at the foodlovers festivals around cumbria and lancashire,
It was my MUM who bought the black pudding this week when they where down in lancashire,
I'm sure they'll sell there products online,
If not then Tap up Peter Gott or made in cumbria as they are well informed in this area,
I cooked it in the oven topped with Thornby Moor goats cheese and served it with crisp woodalls pancetta,
I'm currently creating recipes for white pudding with wild mushrooms and Mrs Kirkhams cheese !!!
check out the link below for RS Irelands.
