Luke was 20 weeks old at the weekend, which is old enough to start on solids.

It's quite early, and he's still very happy breast feeding, but since we will be traveling a lot soon, I thought we'd better get cracking with the root vegetables. But first, we started with something really inoffensive, that great (?) British invention baby rice (never heard of in Sweden). Luke was excited and ate like a baby bird:

This first foray into solids deemed a success, I then spent Saturday night making various culinary delights for my little son – pureed butternut squash, carrot and swede, to be precise. Quite pretty, don't you think?

These frozen purees last in the freezer for up to eight weeks, so even though making them was a bit of a production, they will save me a lot of time, and certainly money. And Luke will eat really good, organic food to boot!
The first puree I gave him was the squash, which went down (and all over him) well. Carrots, he does not like much, the swede I gave him at lunch time today, he finished. And I've learned to hold his little hands while feeding him, so no more of this:

A memorable meal, though, at least for his Mum. |
