Literally in 50 minutes.... Well it was a Lombard Rally one today, I finished work at the Low Wood Hotel at 3pm and then drove at break- neck speed to Cockermouth. It was a favour for a mate, my mate Stuart Birkett who owns Pippins in Ambleside has set up Tarantella the newest restaurant in the town.He actually flew to the south of France today for a weeks skiing, but he phoned and asked me to cover for him, so as a mate and fellow chef, well you know the story....
But it was great I was making fresh pizzas to order, chilli chorizo with mozzarella, margherita, spinach ,egg and garlic oil, baked field mushrooms filled with mozzarella and a herb crust, smoked chicken and mushroom pizzas, bruschettas with cherry tomatoes, roast peppers and pesto, asparagus wrapped in parma ham then roasted and served with poached egg and salsa verde, whole roast sea bass, sage polenta, gnocchi, sage roasted butter, toasted panettone, semifredo, foccachia, gelato, sorbetta, fresh tuna with roasted vegetables...
Well I can't remember the last time I helped to serve 88 people with all the foods I dearly love, it's been a very long and hard day, but so worth it, check out the restaurant and see what you think http://www.tarantellarestaurant.co.uk/index.html. I'm at the Hydro Hotel in Windermere on Tuesday and wednesday this week, doing some fantastic live demos with Lakes Speciality Foods from Staveley, The Cumberland Dairy and English Lakes Ice Creams,
"Think Local" - "Eat Local" - but above all else "Buy Local"

Hi Nick,
From the sound of what you were cooking I think we will check out Tarantella's. I was supposed to be Snowboarding this weekend, but I ripped my calf muscle and spent a week repairing it, the doctor said "take it easy", so I figured doing some video at the Rally would't hurt anyone... You can see the footage at

It was a fantastic rally, I love fast cars, and to see them up close and personal, to hear the sounds as they pass you with inches to spare. I actually starved all day as I was too busy to eat, had I known you were cooking in Cockermouth I would have paid you a visit. - Martin
