A couple of months ago along with a number of fellow Cumbrian foodies, I took part in the filming of the popular UKTV food programme, "The people's cookbook". It was filmed at Lucy Cooks in Staveley. Anthony Worral Thompson and Paul Rankin each cook a recipe created by the "contestants". I was sitting alongside Mike Mounfield and Nick Martin to taste the food that the chefs prepared and give our opinion as to which we thought the best.
Now I have to confess the reason why I agreed to devote a day to this bit of fun was so I could get some exposure for Artisan-food on National TV. So I turned up with my Artisan-food.com logo displayed proudly on my shirt. The makeup girl came along and dutifully "powdered our faces", she then whispered to the director - "we've got a problem here - he has a logo on his shirt!" - General panic ensued, as it was five minutes before the "stars" were due to perform. I thought I'm just going to sit tight and wait. So when they asked had I got another shirt, I said, no, which was the truth, anyway, some poor girl who normally manages the autocue was despatched to get a clean shirt, iron it, then get me changed. Damn, they fixed the problem with 1 minute to go. Still, it was fun to take part and we had a good laugh.
You can see the programme on the channels and time below. In the meantime here is a picture of "the gang", and without giving anything away Anthony Worral Thompson thinks I don't like his cooking but Paul Rankin and I are best mates!

hey martin,
I watched it last night at 9pm, it was great, I can still remember the taste of those lamb kebabs with the coriander chutney, the lovely crusty and rich toad in the hole and the gut busting cloutie dumpling,
i was sat here proud as punch watching it and that shirt does'nt look to bad on you either, i felt like i was representing the cookery school, artisan food.com, cumbria, and good local and traditional foods all at the same time,
Nice one,
Nick...
