We had lunch at the Wateredge Inn in Ambleside the other Saturday (that gloriously hazy, sunny day). They have a pretty remarkable seating area just on the edge of Lake Windermere, and we sat in the sun thinking summer may come one day after all. The food was fine, what you expect from a decent pub. My starters were absolutely huge, so if you have a superhuman appetite, you'll get great value for money here. For me, one would have sufficed. The pate was lovely. Martin's pasta was less than impressive. I would come back to sit by the lake and have a pretty good lunch, but I would not go if I had to sit inside: it feels like a nursing home canteen (if you ignore the actual bar). It didn't make the necessary 17 points to make it into our Restaurant Reviews, although it wasn't a million miles off.
