The new polytunnels are complete! The fantastic weather last week gave us that sunny, windless day and 4 of us completed both structures in an afternoon -a great effort. The tomato plants are now planted and the basil that we will underplant them with is well on its way.

Seed sowing continues at a pace with nearly 5000 blocks made in the past couple of weeks. The tunnels have leapt into productivity .This week we will cut and pack over 500 bags of mixed salad and herbs and cut several hundred lettuce. New season spring cabbage from Lancashire and alternative varieties of lettuce and leaf chard from Growing Well are helping us through the gap between stored roots and the delights of the new season.

The farm is so many shades of green, hedgerows full of blossom, the woods that surround us a carpet of bluebells and wild garlic - an inspiring and uplifting time of year.Very few slugs in our tunnels so far this year, lots of frogs (every time we cut produce we have to check for frogs!)

To bring a little joy to your heart (if the true arrival of spring isn’t enough)– more vegetable jokes .  Why can’t the magician practise his magic secrets in the garden? The corn has ears and the potatoes have eyes…!
