I have visited the Croft as couple of times to see Susan Aglionby's wonderful Longhorn cattle. I have been wanting to try some for ages and after receiving Susan's newsletter informing me of the availability of the beef, I ordered some just before we went to Sweden.
I received a phone call from Susan when the fillet was despatched, and sure enough the next day it arrived by courier, surrounded by ice.

I normally rely on my nose when it comes to checking food, particularly fresh meat, this smelt great and looked even better.

As I was only cooking for two that night and four the next night, I froze half and cut the rest into individual steaks.

It was the most tender piece of beef I have tasted for ages, the only comparison was piece I had in a top chop house in Chicago many years ago. It tasted great too, cooked very briefly on both sides, served with potatoes, some glazed carrots and onion, a little gravy made for the pan juices and a salad on the side.
Well this beef is a hit with me, I am looking forward to finishing the rest of it as well ordering some more and trying the secondary cuts. In short, it's now my number one favourite beef in Cumbria!
